Hi, I’m Matthew
And I’m looking forward to seeing you in the garden
Matthew Harr is Heirloom Potager’s new garden consultant and resident chicken expert. And he knows A LOT about edible gardening.
Growing up in Houston, Texas and learned about raising chickens and gardening at an early age through his grandparents. While majoring in Dance at Texas Tech University, he also studied Horticulture, and went on to get his Masters of Fine Arts in Dance from Sam Houston State University. After school, Matthew perused a career as an actor and dancer, performing in regional theater musicals and with the Pentatonix, Todrick Hall, and Jasmine Murray. Later, he moved to New York City and continued to garden from his balcony, while auditioning for regional theater and Broadway and supporting himself in the fine dining restaurant industry.
Matthew moved to Los Angeles in the summer of 2015 and has been gardening on the West Coast since. In the winter of 2019, he traveled to Australia for an immersive Permaculture course and returned home to develop a garden-based business. It was during the Covid-19 lockdowns in early 2020 that Matthew and Ashley Irene first met in a web-based garden business development course and the two bonded quickly over experiences gardening in Southern California. He joined the Heirloom Potager team in 2021 and is excited to share his garden knowledge with his SoCal community!
